The Department of Population Medicine (DPM) leads in the creation and dissemination of new knowledge and skills essential to maximizing the health of defined populations within available resources.
DPM resides within the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute, an affiliate and appointing department of Harvard Medical School. DPM was formerly the Department of Ambulatory Care and Prevention.
Our core mission is to improve the health of individuals through research and teaching focused on patient populations and the health systems affecting their care.
Areas of Focus include:
Promoting health through prevention
Improving the quality and cost effectiveness of medical care
Understanding and overcoming disparities in care
Using information technology to improve and protect health
Using evidence to build sound health policy
Creating national and global partnerships for health research
Training the next generation of clinical, research, and health system leaders

Dr. Eggleston receives HMS Prize for Excellence in Teaching! -
Emma Eggleston, MD, MPH received the Harvard Medical School 2012 Donald OHara Faculty Prize for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Eggleston is an Instructor and Director of Teaching Programs at DPM, and Director of the Center for Population Health Education.
